Hyderabad, March 21
The Telangana State Government has released Rs.4304 crore under the Pattana Pragati programme from February 2020. The funds were allocated to 142 municipal bodies along with GHMC for infrastructure development. Out of these funds, 91.44% or Rs.3936 crore have already been utilized by the municipal bodies.
Under the leadership of State Urban Development and Municipal Administration Minister Sri KT Rama Rao, the Pattana Pragati programme has been launched in an innovative way, drawing applause from the entire country and receiving national awards every year. Today, the Telangana state is recognized as a fast-growing urbanized state with well-developed cities and towns on par with international standards.
The government has sanctioned Rs.2276 crore to GHMC and Rs.2028 crore to the remaining 141 municipalities, releasing funds every month under Pattana Pragati to strengthen the municipal bodies financially and achieve the government’s goals. The municipal administration and urban development have released Rs.116 crore per month till February in 2022-23, with Rs.61 crore for GHMC and Rs.55 crore for other municipal bodies every month.
Apart from infrastructure development, the municipal bodies are paying special attention to environmental protection and sanitation. The 141 municipal bodies are collecting 4,356 tonnes of garbage every day, and 2,165 new sanitation vehicles have been procured to collect the garbage from houses 100%. The number of sanitary garbage collection vehicles has increased to 4713, significantly improving the sanitation situation.
The government has set up 1233 acres of dump yards in 141 municipalities to process the collected garbage. They have also established 206 dry source collection centers to separate the garbage into wet and dry, and 229 compost beds to convert garbage into organic manure. For environmental protection, the government has sanctioned 139 Faecal Waste Treatment plants with a capacity of 2035 kilo liters per day at a cost of Rs.428 crores in all municipalities, except GHMC.
The state government is successfully implementing the Green Action Plan in the Municipal Corporations to promote greenery. Tree parks are being developed under “Prakriti Vanalu” (urban natural forests) in 3468 wards in 141 municipalities, and a large-scale plantation has been undertaken under Harita Haram for Telangana. The target is to plant 2.14 crore saplings in 141 municipalities in 2023-24.
Under Harita Nidhi (Green Fund), the government has received Rs.128.97 lakhs from trade license holders and Rs.14.28 lakhs from employees and public representatives as a contribution, totaling Rs.1,43,25,000. The state government has also sanctioned 453 Vaikuntadhamams in 141 Municipal bodies, with works in progress in 149 places.
With the slew of development programs, including environmental protection, taken up by the government, all the municipal bodies in the Telangana state stand as a role model for the country.
