The state-level inter-polytechnic sports meet under Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University commenced on Tuesday at the Horticultural Polytechnic College in Mojerla village, Peddamandadi mandal. The two-day sports event, scheduled for May 13 and 14, is witnessing participation from four horticultural polytechnic colleges: Ramagiri Killa (Karimnagar), Dasnapur (Adilabad), Gaddipalli (Nalgonda), and Kollapur.
Inaugurating the event, Dr. Pidigam Saidaiah, Associate Dean of the Mojerla Horticultural College, emphasized the critical role of physical fitness and quality nutrition in combating the growing threat of lifestyle-related diseases. He urged students to incorporate sports and physical activities into their daily routines, noting that physical fitness not only enhances mental well-being but also improves performance in competitive examinations.
“Physical fitness fosters personality development, teamwork, leadership skills, and critical thinking—essential components of holistic education,” Dr. Saidaiah said. He highlighted that all horticultural and polytechnic colleges under the university are giving equal importance to sports alongside academics. He added that professionals in the field of horticulture, who serve the farming community, can perform at their best only when they are physically fit. The university, he assured, is committed to providing sports facilities, fitness coaches, and necessary infrastructure in all its colleges.
The event was attended by Dr. B. Naveen Kumar, Vice Principal of Ramagiri Killa Horticultural Polytechnic; Ch. Naresh Goud, Vice Principal of Gaddipalli Ganta Gopal Reddy Horticultural Polytechnic; Associate Professor Dr. Shahnaz; faculty members Purnima Mishra, Dr. G. Vidya (Coordinator), K. Bhaskar, J. Srinivas, Gautami, and Navya Swetha; Administrative Officer Rajeshwari; Physical Director Mahesh; and a large number of students and staff from participating colleges.
