TM Selvaganapathy, a DMK Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu, was sentenced to two years in the cremation case and resigned in April 2014. Similarly, Jagdish Sharma, a JD(U) Lok Sabha MP from Jahanabad, Bihar, was sentenced to four years in the fodder scam in September 2013 and declared ineligible for Lok Sabha. Lalu Prasad Yadav, an RJD MP from Saran in Bihar, was also disqualified in September 2013 after being sentenced to five years in the fodder scam. Rashid Masood, a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh, was declared disqualified in September 2013 after being sentenced for four years in the MBBS seat scam. Recently, Rahul Gandhi has become the fifth person to be disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha due to a court’s sentence.
