GITAM University Signs MoU with Indian Army to Support Defence Education and Research

Hyderabad, July 3, 2025:
In a remarkable step toward strengthening its commitment to nation-building through education and research, GITAM (Deemed to be University) has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army. The agreement, which covers the academic years 2025–26 to 2029–30, aims to deepen collaboration in technical education, research, and social responsibility.

The MoU was formally signed at GITAM’s Hyderabad campus by Brigadier T.M. Sinha, representing the Indian Army, and Prof. D.S. Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor of GITAM-Hyderabad. The signing ceremony was attended by senior faculty members including Prof. V. Rama Sastry, Director of the School of Technology and Dean of Core Engineering, and Prof. P. Srinivas, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who welcomed the dignitaries.

Prof. D.S. Rao emphasized the significance of partnering with the Indian Defence Services, particularly the Indian Army, in enhancing the standards of technical education. He encouraged both students and faculty to make the most of the opportunities arising from this collaboration.

Prof. V. Rama Sastry highlighted GITAM’s longstanding association with the Armed Forces, noting that the university has existing MoUs with the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. He outlined the key components of the new MoU, which include the provision of free seats to children of Army personnel and technical collaboration in areas such as defence electronics, materials technology, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), and AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning). The agreement also paves the way for expert exchanges and joint research initiatives in these crucial fields.

Brigadier T.M. Sinha expressed his gratitude to GITAM for extending educational support to Army families. Addressing the students, he spoke passionately about the values of integrity, purpose, and commitment. “Whatever you do, do it with honesty and commitment,” he said. “If you choose the Indian Army, remember it is not just a job or a career—it is a way of life filled with purpose, adventure, and loyalty.” He urged students to listen to their inner calling rather than yield to societal expectations and to pursue paths aligned with their passions.

Through this MoU, GITAM reinforces its resolve to contribute meaningfully to the nation by empowering the defence community with access to quality education and advanced research.
