Nalgonda Tops the List
Hyderabad, Velugu: The Telangana government has launched the 2025-26 farmer insurance year, achieving a record-breaking coverage of 42,16,848 farmers across the state. This marks an increase of 1,181 farmers compared to last year, making it the highest coverage in the state’s history, according to agriculture department Officials.
Nalgonda Leads in Beneficiaries
Nalgonda district secured the top spot in the state for the number of farmers covered under the insurance scheme, with 2,98,037 farmers enrolled. Of these, 12,212 are new beneficiaries, while 2,85,825 farmers had their insurance renewed. Sangareddy district followed with 2,12,335 farmers, and Khammam district ranked third with 2,04,951 farmers. Kamareddy district insured 1,98,241 farmers, and NagarKurnool district covered 1,90,945 farmers. Across the state, 24 districts reported over one lakh beneficiaries, while the remaining eight districts had fewer than one lakh. Medchal district recorded the lowest coverage with 14,310 farmers, including just 632 new enrollments, placing it at the bottom.
New Enrollments and Renewals
The 2025-26 insurance season began on August 14, following the conclusion of the previous year’s coverage on August 13. Farmers aged 18 to 59 who received pattadar passbooks by June 5, 2025, were eligible to apply. The agriculture department accepted applications until August 13, enrolling 1,96,890 new farmers. Additionally, 40,19,958 existing beneficiaries had their insurance renewed, ensuring coverage until August 14, 2026.
Reduced Premium Rates
To make the scheme more accessible, the insurance premium was reduced this year from ₹3,400 to ₹3,225 per farmer, a reduction of ₹175. This was achieved through negotiations by the agriculture department, easing the financial burden on farmers.
Over ₹1,300 Crore in Claims Disbursed
In the 2024-25 insurance year, over 25,000 claims were registered statewide. With each claim amounting to ₹5 lakh, a total of over ₹1,300 crore was disbursed as compensation to farmers’ families, providing critical financial support.
The state government’s efforts to expand the farmer insurance scheme underscore its commitment to ensuring financial security and stability for farmers. Officials emphasized that the scheme continues to offer a safety net, fostering confidence among the farming community.
