
Telangana Hosts 7th All India Prison Duty Meet – 2025 with Grand Welcome
Hyderabad, September 8, 2025 – The Telangana Prisons and Correctional Services Department extended a grand welcome to contingents from across the country for the 7th All India Prison Duty Meet – 2025, which began today at the RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy, Hyderabad. The three-day national-level event, scheduled from September 9 to 11, is being organized under the supervision of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Dr. Soumya Mishra, IPS, led the welcome ceremony and received the participating teams representing 21 States and 3 Union Territories. As part of Telangana’s gesture of hospitality, each team was presented with a special welcome kit crafted by prison inmates, featuring a handcrafted wooden model of Hyderabad’s iconic Charminar.
In a symbolic ceremony, Dr. Mishra also received the BPR&D flag and the Gujarat team flag, formally marking Telangana’s role as the current host state. Gujarat had hosted the previous edition of the meet.

Earlier in the day, a coordination meeting was held with team leaders and nodal officers where the rules and regulations of the competitions were explained. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Soumya Mishra expressed gratitude to the BPR&D and to all State Prison Departments for their active participation. She urged the teams to showcase discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, which she described as the core values of prison services.

The All India Prison Duty Meet is a unique event that combines professional, sports, and cultural competitions aimed at enhancing camaraderie, skill development, and physical fitness among prison staff across the country. More than 1,300 participants, including 184 women personnel, are expected to take part in 36 events ranging from first aid and prison duties to athletics and cultural contests.

Senior officers from Telangana Prisons and officials from BPR&D attended the welcome ceremony. The event is being seen as an opportunity not only to showcase the professional competence of prison staff but also to promote Telangana’s cultural heritage through the contributions of inmates who prepared the welcome kits.
