Hyderabad, March27: Working President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K.T. Rama Rao, responded to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on “Hyderabad liberation day” during his visit to Karnataka on Sunday. Rao reminded Shah that September 17 is celebrated as National Integration Day by the Telangana government, as it marks the day when Hyderabad state was integrated into the Indian Union in 1948. He called out Shah’s “blatant misrepresentation” as unbecoming of his stature as a Union Home Minister.
Rao tweeted, “Stop being a prisoner of the past. Become the Architect of your Future,” and emphasized the importance of respectful commemoration of sacrifices and struggles against oppressors, be it the British or the Nizam.
During his visit to Bidar district in Karnataka, Shah inaugurated the Gorata Martyrs’ Memorial and a memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Gorata. He highlighted the sacrifice of people in Gorata village allegedly killed by Razakars of Nizam, the ruler of Hyderabad State, for hosting a 2.5-ft tall Tricolour. Shah said that a 103-ft tall Tricolour has now been hoisted on the same land.
Shah also targeted the Congress party for vote bank politics and alleged that the party never commemorated the martyrs of Independence and Hyderabad liberation.
