NEET (UG) 2026 Re-Examination Scheduled for June 21

New Delhi, May 15:
The National Testing Agency (NTA), with the approval of the Government of India, has officially announced that the re-examination for NEET (UG) 2026 will be conducted on Sunday, June 21, 2026 across the country. The announcement comes in the wake of the cancellation of the earlier examination amid allegations of question paper leaks and examination irregularities.

NEET (UG), India’s largest undergraduate medical entrance examination, is conducted for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other allied medical courses in government and private institutions nationwide. More than 22 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the re-examination this year.

The NTA urged students and parents to rely only on official communication channels for authentic updates regarding the examination, admit cards and related procedures. The agency also cautioned candidates against misinformation and fake notices circulating on social media platforms.

Officials said fresh admit cards and revised examination guidelines will be issued before the re-test. Candidates who had already registered for the cancelled examination will not be required to submit fresh applications or pay additional fees, as their previous registrations will remain valid.

The controversy surrounding NEET (UG) 2026 erupted after allegations surfaced that portions of the question paper had been leaked before the May 3 examination. Investigative agencies, including the CBI, are currently probing the matter. Multiple arrests have already been made in connection with the alleged leak and related malpractices.

Following the allegations, the Government of India ordered a detailed investigation and subsequently approved the cancellation of the examination to maintain transparency and fairness in the admission process. The move triggered anxiety among lakhs of aspirants and parents across the country, many of whom had already completed months of rigorous preparation.

Several coaching institutes have reportedly resumed intensive revision classes and mock tests to help students prepare again for the fresh examination. Experts believe the revised schedule may also impact the medical counselling and admission calendar for the 2026 academic year.

Meanwhile, petitions have also been filed in the Supreme Court seeking stricter oversight of national-level entrance examinations and reforms in the functioning of the NTA.

Students and parents can contact the NTA through its official helpline numbers — 011-40759000 and 011-69227700 — or email their queries to neet-ug@nta.ac.in.

For official updates, candidates have been advised to regularly check the official NTA and NEET websites.
