Chennai, July 2: The makers of director Nelson Dilipkumar’s much-awaited action entertainer ‘Jailer 2’, starring Superstar Rajinikanth, on Thursday officially announced that the film will release in theatres worldwide on October 15, setting off celebrations among fans across the globe.
Production house Sun Pictures made the announcement on its official social media handles, posting, “Alappara Kelappurom! #Jailer2 storms into theatres worldwide on October 15.” Along with the announcement, the makers unveiled an action-packed teaser that has further heightened anticipation for the sequel.
The teaser opens with actor Vinayakan issuing a chilling warning to Rajinikanth’s character, saying that an even bigger network is waiting to avenge his death. It then transitions into Rajinikanth’s stylish entry, offering glimpses of the high-octane action and key characters that will feature in the film.
The sequel has generated enormous buzz ever since it was announced, largely because it follows the blockbuster success of ‘Jailer’, which grossed around ₹650 crore worldwide and became one of the biggest hits of Rajinikanth’s career.
Earlier this year, the makers confirmed that shooting for the film had been completed. In April, Rajinikanth had revealed that the project was in its final stages and said the production house would announce the release date at the appropriate time.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel promises a blend of intense action, gripping drama and mass entertainment, much like its predecessor. Sources close to the production have indicated that the film has shaped up impressively and is expected to meet the high expectations of audiences.
The film features an ensemble cast, including Ramya Krishnan, who reprises her role as Vijaya Pandian (Viji), wife of Rajinikanth’s character Muthuvel Pandian. Actress Mirnaa also returns as Swetha Pandian, while Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi are reported to have key appearances in the film.
Music for ‘Jailer 2’ has once again been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose chart-topping soundtrack played a significant role in the phenomenal success of the first installment.
With the official release date now locked, ‘Jailer 2’ is shaping up to be one of the biggest Indian film releases of the year, with fans eagerly awaiting Rajinikanth’s return to the big screen this October.
