New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at restoring confidence in India’s examination system, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the formation of a high-powered task force on examination reforms under the leadership of Infosys co-founder and Aadhaar architect Nandan Nilekani.
The task force has been constituted to recommend comprehensive reforms that will make the country’s examination system more transparent, reliable, and technology-driven. The Prime Minister said the recommendations of the committee would be implemented at the earliest to ensure the credibility of future examinations.
Addressing the nation through a video message, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding students’ interests and ensuring fairness in competitive examinations.
“The Government of India is continuously taking various measures for the future of students. Those who tampered with the students’ future are languishing in jail. We have already established fast-track courts and are moving towards enacting a new law with stringent legal provisions,” the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting the need for long-term reforms, he added that the examination system must become more transparent and make maximum use of modern technology. “Keeping all these factors in mind, we have decided to constitute a high-powered task force under the leadership of world-renowned technology expert Nandan Nilekani,” he said.
According to an official statement, the task force will comprise several eminent experts, including former ISRO Chairman S. Somnath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
The announcement comes a day after nationwide student protests against alleged examination paper leaks concluded following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi assumed additional charge as the Union Minister for Education on Sunday. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the responsibility, Joshi said he accepted the role with “humility and a deep sense of duty.”
Pralhad Joshi, who continues to serve as the Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, takes over the Education Ministry at a crucial time, with the government facing intense public scrutiny over alleged irregularities in several competitive examinations.
The newly constituted task force is expected to submit recommendations that will strengthen examination security, leverage advanced technologies, and enhance transparency, paving the way for a more credible and robust examination framework in India.
