New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded the online FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible commuters to apply for monthly local passes through the Rajmargyatra mobile app.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the digital facility eliminates the need for commuters to physically visit toll plazas and submit documents manually for obtaining a monthly local pass.
Local Pass Available Through Rajmargyatra App
Under the Digital Local Pass system, residents living within a 20-km radius of an eligible toll plaza can apply for the monthly pass through the Rajmargyatra app. The pass allows eligible users unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza during the month, subject to applicable rules.
The first Digital Local Pass facility was introduced in July 2026 at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Following its initial rollout, the facility has now been extended to 121 toll plazas nationwide.
NHAI plans to expand the digital facility to additional toll plazas in the coming months.
DigiLocker, VAHAN and GIS Verification
The new system uses consent-based integration with government digital platforms, including DigiLocker and VAHAN, to verify key details such as the commuter’s residential address, vehicle information and linked FASTag.
Eligibility is further verified through GIS-based technology, which checks whether the applicant’s registered address falls within the prescribed 20-km radius of the eligible toll plaza.
No More Manual Documentation
Previously, commuters seeking a local pass were required to visit toll plazas in person and submit documents to establish their residential address and eligibility.
The digital system is designed to reduce manual intervention, improve transparency and streamline the delivery of local toll services.
NHAI said the initiative will make National Highway travel more seamless, efficient and citizen-centric by leveraging technology for tolling operations.
