Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag, who has made his streaming debut as the host of the reality show Rise & Fall Season 2, has opened up about the highs and lows of his cricketing career, saying setbacks gave him opportunities to rebuild and come back stronger.
Speaking to IANS during the promotions of the show, Sehwag recalled several turning points in his career that reflected the theme of “rise and fall”.
“In my life, rise and fall has happened a lot,” Sehwag said. Recalling his early days, he said his first match in 1999 ended in a draw, which he described as a “fall”. He later made a comeback and scored a fast century, marking a significant rise in his career.
Sehwag also remembered being dropped from the Indian team in 2007. He returned strongly in 2008 and scored his second triple century in Test cricket, once again experiencing a major turnaround in his career.
“Life is all about ups and downs. It happens in life, if you keep playing,” Sehwag said.
The former opener added that setbacks can provide an opportunity to build a stronger foundation. “In everyone’s life, rise and fall happen. But when you fall, you get a chance to make a solid foundation. When you rise, you become better,” he said.
Sehwag also pointed out that sustained success throughout a career is rare, noting that not everyone can enjoy a smooth run for decades.
Sehwag Takes Over as Host of Rise & Fall Season 2
Sehwag has taken over the hosting duties from Ashneer Grover for the second season of Rise & Fall. The reality series brings together 15 contestants for a 42-day competition built around power, strategy, alliances and changing fortunes.
The contestants are divided into two groups — Rulers, who control the game from the Tower, and Workers, who live in the Basement and compete for opportunities to move up.
Season 2 also gives viewers a greater role in the game, allowing the audience to influence who becomes a Ruler or a Worker.
The show’s contestants include Swara Bhasker, Karan Patel, Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Shehzad Poonawalla, Gautam Gulati, Tej Pratap Yadav, Sara Gurpal and Kajal Raghwani, among others.
