Hyderabad April 2

In a dominant performance, Rajasthan Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs in the fourth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.

Rajasthan Royals posted a mammoth total of 203/5, thanks to half-centuries from Jos Buttler, Yashaswi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson. Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled in response, losing early wickets as they were restricted to 131/8 in their 20 overs. Abdul Samad was the top scorer for SRH with an unbeaten 32.

Chasing a target of 204, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a major blow in the first over as Trent Boult dismissed opener Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi for ducks. Boult bowled a sizzling yorker to Abhishek, flattening the off stump, while Tripathi got caught at slip by Jason Holder.

Mayank Agarwal and Harry Brook tried to steady the innings, but Yuzvendra Chahal’s brilliant spell of 4/17 put the hosts in deep trouble. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jason Holder also contributed with one wicket each as SRH were left reeling at 48/5 after 10 overs.

Although Adil Rashid tried to hit some big shots, it was too little too late for SRH. Chahal cleaned up skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the 18th over to pick up his fourth wicket of the match. Umran Malik hit a few lusty blows towards the end, but it wasn’t enough as SRH finished their innings at 131/8.

With this victory, Rajasthan Royals climbed to the top of the IPL 2023 points table.
