Banglore, April 26
A 27-year-old woman in Bengaluru, India, jumped off a moving Rapido bike to escape a molestation attempt by the rider, who has since been arrested. The incident occurred on April 21 when the woman booked the bike to reach a friend’s house in Indiranagar at around 11 p.m. The accused, identified as Deepak Rao, took her mobile phone on the pretext of getting an OTP and started harassing her sexually while driving. He also deviated from the route, heading towards Doddaballapur Road instead of Indiranagar. When the woman questioned him, he began speeding.

The victim, shocked and scared, decided to jump off the vehicle near BMS College in Nagenahalli near Yelahanka. The security staff at the college came to her aid, while the accused fled the scene. Although the woman sustained injuries to her hands and legs, she was fortunate to have been wearing a helmet, which protected her head and face from harm.

After borrowing a phone, the woman informed her family and friends about the incident and then contacted the police. The authorities reviewed CCTV footage of the incident and arrested the accused, who was inebriated at the time of the crime. He has since been remanded in judicial custody while an investigation is underway.
