Revanth Reddy had planned to meet Special Chief Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar over the issue of the leasing of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to a private party. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief argued that there was no need to take appointments to go to the Secretariat and questioned the government’s decision to lease ORR for 30 years.

Hyderabad, May 1 – On Monday, Telangana Congress Chief and Member of Parliament A. Revanth Reddy was stopped by Hyderabad police from proceeding to the state Secretariat. The police stopped Revanth Reddy near Telephone Bhavan, close to the Secretariat, as he had not taken permission to meet officials.

The police have increased security at the Secretariat, which was inaugurated on Sunday, and erected barricades at the entrance. The TPCC Chief claimed that the leasing of ORR by the government was a big scam. He argued that the project, estimated to generate Rs 30,000 crore in the next 10 years, was leased out for just Rs 7,380 crore.

Revanth Reddy alleged that huge sums had changed hands in the deal and that toll collection on the ORR is Rs 2 crore every day. He claimed that the extension without a tender benefitted the bigwigs and urged Minister for Municipal Administration K. T. Rama Rao to explain the reasons for the extension. He warned that those behind the shady deal will not be spared and that the Congress government would review the lease as soon as it comes to power after the next elections.
