Priests Association Announces Dates for Sammakka Saralamma Mahajatara in Medaram

Mulugu, May 03: The dates for the Sammakka Saralamma Mahajatara of Medaram Tadwai Mandal of Mulugu District have been finalized by the priests association. The Muhurta was announced in a meeting held on Wednesday in the presence of the nymphs. The Mandameligeto Mahajatara’s seed offering will take place on February 14, 2024 (Wednesday). On February 21, 2024, at 6 pm, Saralamma, Govinda Raju, and Pagidda Raju will bring the gods to the throne. On the 22nd, Sammakka Goddess will be brought to the throne. On the 23rd, devotees pay obeisance to the gods. On the last day, February 24, the gods enter Vanapresva. The Mahajatara 2024 will start on February 21 (Wednesday) and end on February 24. The priests association president explained that there will be a Thiruguvaram program on February 28.

The Medaram Jatara is the largest tribal fair in India and was recognized as a state festival by the Telangana government in 2014. This fair is a fair without idols and reflects the culture and traditions of the tribes. The biennial fair starts on the full moon day of Magha Suddha and lasts for four days. A large number of devotees participate after the Kumbh Mela. Medaram region is crowded with lakhs of devotees not only from the state but also from neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, etc. Lakhs of devotees pay obeisances to Sammakka-Saralamma. It is estimated that one and a half million devotees will come to Medaram Jatara.

Mahajatara schedule:
February 21 (Maghasuddha Dwadashi): Saralamma, Govindaraju, and Pagiddaraju arrive at Gadde at 6 pm.
February 22 (Magha Shuddha Trayodashi): At 8 am, Kankavana is brought to Gaddela. At 6 o'clock in the evening, Sammakka deity is worshiped.
February 23 (Maghasuddha Chaturdashi): Devotees pay their prayers.
February 24 (Magha Shuddha Poornami): Sammakka, Saralamma, Pagiddaraju, and Govindaraja will enter Vanapresham.
