The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is set to launch 10 electric AC buses, named ‘E-Garuda’, on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route starting from Tuesday. These buses are part of TSRTC’s plan to operate 50 electric AC buses on this route, with the remaining buses scheduled to be introduced in phases by the end of this year. The initiative aims to provide passengers with a comfortable and environmentally friendly travel experience. TSRTC plans to run an electric AC bus every 20 minutes on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route. Additionally, a total of 1,860 new electric buses will be made available within the next two years, with 1,300 buses planned for Hyderabad city and 550 buses for distant areas. Furthermore, TSRTC has announced plans to introduce 10 double-decker buses in Hyderabad soon.

The inauguration ceremony for these electric AC buses will take place in Hyderabad tomorrow. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar will be the chief guest, along with TSRTC Chairman, MLA Bajireddy Govardhan, MD VC Sajjanar, and other officials, who will flag off the “E-Garuda” buses at the Pushfak Bus Point near Miyapur Cross Road.
The electric AC buses, measuring 12 meters in length, come equipped with advanced features to enhance passenger experience. Each bus has a seating capacity of 41 passengers and is equipped with mobile charging facilities and reading lamps at every seat. To ensure passenger safety, panic buttons and a vehicle tracking system are installed at each seat, allowing them to connect to the TSRTC control room. The buses are equipped with three CCTV cameras, providing a recording backup of one month, along with an Automatic Passenger Counter (APC) camera to accurately count the number of passengers. Other features include a reverse parking assistance camera, LED boards displaying destination details at the front and back of the bus, a fire detection suppression system (FDSS) for early fire prevention, and a public address system to convey information to passengers. These electric AC buses can travel up to 325 kilometers on a single charge.

The introduction of these eco-friendly electric AC buses is a significant step towards sustainable and efficient public transportation in Telangana, promoting cleaner air and reducing carbon emissions.
