Hyderabad, June 2: The Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, G. Kishan Reddy, criticized the Telangana state government led by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, accusing them of “family rule and corruption.” Reddy made these remarks during the Telangana state formation day celebrations organized by the Central government at Golconda Fort.

During the event, Reddy hoisted the national flag at the historic fort, symbolically commencing the celebrations. He lambasted the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, claiming that Telangana has become subservient to one family.

Directly targeting Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Union minister emphasized that Telangana’s formation was not the result of the efforts of one or two individuals but was made possible by a mass agitation.

Reddy asserted that the formation of Telangana state was supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) when it was in the opposition.

Recalling the Telangana movement’s objectives of securing water, funds, and jobs, Reddy criticized the KCR government for failing to achieve these goals.

He alleged that corruption was rampant in Telangana due to the prevailing family rule, resulting in the state falling into a debt trap. Reddy expressed disappointment that the government was not working to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs who fought for Telangana’s formation.

The Member of Parliament from Secunderabad accused the state government of neglecting the promises made to the poor, who are still waiting for the houses they were assured. Reddy also highlighted the government’s failure to adequately support the families of martyrs.

Furthermore, he criticized the government for taking on massive loans but failing to pay salaries to government employees on time. Reddy questioned the progress of the government’s promises to develop Hyderabad into cities like Istanbul or Singapore, noting that flyovers alone would not solve all problems.

During the celebration, Reddy honored the families of Telangana martyrs.

This marked the first time since the formation of Telangana State nine years ago that the Union Government organized the formation day celebrations.

Under the auspices of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Union Ministry of Culture arranged a two-day event at Golconda Fort. The festivities included a march past, photography and painting exhibitions, and cultural performances in the evening.

Notable artists such as Anandaji, Manjula Ramaswamy, and renowned Telugu singers Mangli and Madhupriya showcased their talents on June 2. The day concluded with a spectacular performance by singer Shankar Mahadevan.

On June 3, captivating folk dance performances such as Dimsa, Dappu, and Gussadi will be held, along with a theatrical production on Raja Ram Mohan Roy. The day will culminate with a multilingual ‘mushaira’ (poetic symposium).
