Political Analyst Expresses Concern over Unfairness to South India if Lok Sabha Seats Increased Based on Population

Hyderabad, June 8: Noted political analyst Jilakara Srinivas raised apprehensions about the potential injustice to South India if the number of Lok Sabha seats is increased solely based on current population figures. Speaking at a meeting organized under the auspices of South Sena in Hyderabad on Thursday, Srinivas highlighted the disparities in population growth between North and South India.

Srinivas emphasized that the southern states have successfully implemented stringent family planning measures, resulting in controlled population growth. Conversely, North India has experienced substantial population increase due to inadequate implementation of family planning programs. Consequently, if Lok Sabha seats are allocated based on the current population, it would lead to an augmented dominance of North India. This would enable political parties securing majority seats in northern states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh to wield significant power at the center, potentially rendering the southern states marginalized. Srinivas argued that such an outcome would be an extreme injustice to the southern states.

In response, Srinivas called for the establishment of a Supreme Court bench, an additional parliament, and a central secretariat in the south. He underlined the escalating influence of the northern region across several southern states. The meeting witnessed the participation of South Sena leaders Ramulu, Ravi, Srikanth, Ramesh (Prudhvi), Jagadish, and other prominent figures.
