Hyderabad Sailing Week-2023 and Laser National Championship Sets Sail at Hussain Sagar Lake
Hyderabad, 04 Jul 2023: The highly anticipated 37th Hyderabad Sailing Week and Laser National Championship commenced with a grand opening ceremony at Hussain Sagar Lake. Organized under the auspices of EME Sailing Association (EMESA) and Laser Class Association of India, in collaboration with Secunderabad Sailing Club, the event has attracted a remarkable turnout of both aspiring and seasoned sailors from across the country.
The inauguration was graced by Lt Gen JS Sidana, Commandant MCEME, Colonel Commandant Corps of EME, Commodore EME Sailing Association, and Vice President Laser Class Association of India. In his inaugural address, General Sidana commended the EME Sailing Association for their meticulous planning of this prestigious event. He also praised the Telangana Sports Association for their efforts in inspiring the youth of the state to embrace competitive sailing. General Sidana expressed his belief that the championship would provide a platform for talented sailors to represent the nation at national and international forums, ultimately bringing glory to the country.
The Hyderabad Sailing Week, an annual national regatta, is eagerly anticipated by the residents of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The flagging off ceremony, held on 04 Jul 2023 by General Sidana, featured more than 100 sailboats. This year’s Laser National Championship also serves as a trial event for the Asian Games, receiving accreditation from the Yachting Association of India (YAI).
The week-long event, which commenced on 04 Jul 2023, is scheduled to conclude on 09 Jul 2023. The closing ceremony will take place at the Secunderabad Sailing Club, where organizers and award winners will be honored for their remarkable contributions.
The championship has attracted a total of 89 participants from 11 different clubs, including 11 women and 17 participants from the state of Telangana. Notably, the oldest participant this year is 72-year-old Mr. Murali Kanuri.
