Opposition MPs Seek Discussion on Manipur Violence in Parliament
New Delhi, July 27: Several Opposition MPs in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have moved notices seeking a discussion on the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lower House, requesting a discussion on the issue.
In the Upper House, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)’s Manoj Kumar Jha, and AAP’s Raghav Chadha gave suspension of business notices. AAP MP Sanjay Singh also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks about returning to power in 2024, saying that such insensitivity is unacceptable while a part of the country is grappling with violence.
The ethnic clashes in Manipur have been ongoing since May 3, resulting in numerous casualties and displacement of thousands who have sought refuge in relief camps. The Opposition parties have been holding Chief Minister N. Biren Singh responsible for the crisis and are demanding his dismissal.
