Chengdu, China, Aug 1: Indian shooters showcased their prowess at the 31st FISU World University Games by securing a gold and a bronze medal on the fourth day of competition, Tuesday.
The Indian Women’s 50m Rifle 3-Position Team delivered a stellar performance to clinch the gold medal, successfully overcoming stiff competition from China. The triumphant team consisted of Ashi Chouksey, Manini Kaushik, and Sift Kaur Samra, who displayed remarkable precision to amass an aggregate score of 3527 points, including an impressive 194 inner 10s. China settled for the silver medal with a score of 3523 (173x), while the Czech Republic secured the bronze with a total of 3501 points, including 164 inner 10s.
Sift Kaur led the scoring for India, securing a commendable score of 1180 (66x), closely followed by Ashi Chouksey with 1174 (67x) and Manini Kaushik with 1173 (61x).
Notably, all three Indian women shooters, Sift Kaur, Ashi Chouksey, and Manini Kaushik, also qualified for the eight-shooter final in the 50m Rifle 3-Position event. Sift Kaur ranked second with 1180 points, Ashi Chouksey secured the fifth position with 1174 points, and Manini Kaushik stood seventh with a total of 1173 points. The final round is scheduled to take place later in the evening.
In the 10m Air Pistol Team competition, the Indian team comprising Varun Tomar, Arjun Singh Cheema, and Anmol Jain displayed excellent teamwork to bag the bronze medal with a total of 1730 points and 57 inner 10s score. The top spot was shared by South Korea and China, both scoring 1742 points, but the gold medal went to South Korea due to their superior 67 hits to the inner 10 compared to China’s 61.
Indian shooters have been making their nation proud with their remarkable performances, and their success at the FISU World University Games is a testament to their dedication and skill in the shooting sports.
