Jyotiraditya M. Scindia to Inaugurate New Infrastructure at Tezu Airport on September 24, 2023
Tezu, Arunachal Pradesh: On September 24, 2023, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel, will join hands with Shri Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, to inaugurate the enhanced infrastructure at Tezu Airport, marking a significant milestone for the region.
The newly developed infrastructure, with an investment of Rs. 170 Crores, encompasses several crucial elements to boost the airport’s capabilities. This includes an extension of the runway, construction of a new apron, a state-of-the-art terminal building, and a combined fire station and Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower.
Tezu Airport serves as a vital domestic aviation hub, situated in the town of Tezu, spanning over 212 acres of land. It caters to ATR 72 type aircraft and has played a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity. The expansion project was undertaken by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) at the request of the State Government. Key developments include a runway extension measuring 1500 meters by 30 meters and the construction of a new apron capable of accommodating two ATR 72 type aircraft. Additionally, the newly built terminal area boasts an impressive 4000 square meters with a peak-hour capacity to serve 300 passengers. It includes five check-in counters (with three more planned for the future), two arrival carousels, and two aircraft parking bays tailored for ATR-72 type aircraft.

Sustainability Features incorporated into the terminal building include a double-insulated roofing system, energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems, low-heat gain glazing, and equipment compliant with the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC). The airport also features a solid waste management system, water reuse for flushing and horticulture, rainwater harvesting integrated with a Sustainable Urban Drainage System, and the use of efficient water fixtures.
Benefits of the Project extend beyond infrastructure improvements. The enhanced Tezu Airport is poised to significantly expand its capacity, accommodating higher air traffic and strengthening connectivity within the northeastern region and the rest of the country. This development is expected to stimulate tourism, bolster trade, and generate employment opportunities, ultimately contributing to the overall economic growth of the region.
Tezu, nestled along the banks of the Lohit River, serves as the headquarters of the Lohit District in Arunachal Pradesh. This picturesque town is renowned for its scenic beauty, surrounded by lush green forests and rolling hills, making it an attractive destination for travelers.
The inauguration of Tezu Airport’s upgraded infrastructure signifies a vital step toward enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic development in this remote and breathtaking part of India.
