A delegation representing Government Schools in Andhra Pradesh, comprising 10 students, 2 teachers, and 2 senior officials, including Mr. B. Srinivasa Rao (IAS), State Project Director, Samagra Siksha, continues to garner accolades for the state and the nation during their visit to the United States of America.
Their latest achievement involved an engaging visit to the World Bank in Washington DC, where they were extended an invitation for an informal luncheon followed by an extensive discussion on Education and Health with prominent World Bank officials. The distinguished attendees included Ms. Rifat Hasan, Lead Health Specialist; Ms. Tracy Wilichowski, World Bank Analyst; and Ms. Laura Gregory, Senior Education Specialist.
The World Bank commenced the engagement by commending the various educational initiatives undertaken by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, including the AmmaVodi program, Nadu-Nedu, the introduction of English Medium in Schools, and the utilization of bilingual textbooks. The World Bank expressed a strong desire to deepen its involvement in the Andhra Pradesh Government’s mission to invest in human capital.
Subsequently, the World Bank officials sought input from the students of Andhra Pradesh Government Schools to enhance the effectiveness of future engagements. The students presented a Five-Point Programme, including:
- Parental Sensitization Program: A program designed to sensitize parents and encourage prioritizing education within the community.
- Global Student Exchange Platform: Establishing a common online platform for students worldwide to exchange ideas and discuss topics such as Climate Change and Sustainable Development.
- Foreign University Exchange Programs: Initiating numerous exchange programs with leading foreign universities.
- Activity Clubs in Government Schools: Introduction of activity clubs focusing on environmental and cultural aspects.
- Model United Nations: Introducing the concept of Model United Nations and hosting state-level competitions on related themes.
This visit not only showcases the dedication of Andhra Pradesh’s education system but also highlights the global interest and collaboration opportunities in shaping the future of education and health for the state and beyond.
