New Delhi, Sep 27: Today, on September 27, 1998, the tech giant Google celebrates its 25th birthday, taking a nostalgic journey to reflect on its inception.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, marked this milestone with a special Doodle, expressing gratitude to the company’s dedicated user base. Pichai said, “Happy 25th birthday @Google! Thanks to everyone who uses our products and challenges us to keep innovating and to all Googlers!”
The journey of Google began when its founders, Sergey Brin and Larry (Lawrence) Page, crossed paths as doctoral students in Stanford University’s computer science program during the late ’90s. Together, they discovered a shared vision: to make the World Wide Web more accessible. Working diligently from their dorm rooms, they crafted a prototype for a superior search engine.
In its nascent days, Google’s headquarters were nothing more than a rented garage, as Brin and Page transitioned their operations out of their dormitory.
Today, both founders rank among the wealthiest individuals globally, and Google’s products are integral to the daily lives of billions worldwide.
Google remains an indispensable part of the average internet user’s existence, with the company’s name becoming a part of everyday vernacular over the years.
In 2006, Google officially earned a place in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as a verb, defining it as “to use the Google search engine to obtain information on the World Wide Web.”
Google’s search engine is now accessible in over 150 languages and utilized by individuals in more than 190 countries, underlining its global impact and enduring relevance in the digital age.
