In the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the United States has disregarded international appeals for a ceasefire, asserting that it is not the “appropriate solution at this time.”

This stance was communicated by US National Security spokesperson John Kirby during a press conference held on Monday. Despite rejecting the call for a ceasefire, the United States has engaged in discussions with the Israeli government regarding the potential increase in the number of aid trucks allowed to enter Gaza each day, with the aim of reaching approximately 100 trucks.

These discussions are part of broader efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected region. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel also dismissed the ceasefire appeals on Monday, vowing that there would be no cessation of hostilities until Hamas, the militant group based in Gaza, is effectively dismantled. He framed the calls for a ceasefire as tantamount to surrendering to terrorism, emphasizing that this outcome would not occur.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas escalated on October 7, following Hamas attacks that resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people in Israel. In response, Israel initiated a series of airstrikes on Gaza. As a consequence of this ongoing violence, more than 8,300 people in Gaza have lost their lives, according to figures from the Hamas-controlled health ministry. The situation remains a matter of deep concern and international attention.
