In a moment of cricketing glory, New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, etched his name in the annals of the ICC ODI World Cup history for the BlackCaps during the league stage match against Pakistan at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.

Williamson achieved this remarkable milestone by dispatching a short delivery from Hasan Ali for a boundary, amassing an impressive 95 runs in just 79 balls. This achievement catapulted him past the seasoned Stephen Fleming, who had accumulated 1075 runs across 33 innings. Kane Williamson now stands atop the list of highest run-scorers for New Zealand with 1084 runs, achieved in a mere 24 innings.

However, the 33-year-old fell just short of securing his third World Cup century, getting dismissed for 95 in the 35th over, bowled out by Iftikhar Ahmed.

New Zealand Cricket celebrated this achievement by stating, “Kane Williamson’s 95 runs today made him the team’s leading @cricketworldcup run scorer. Williamson overtook Stephen Fleming (1075 runs) in the top spot,” on their social media platform.

In the ongoing 2023 World Cup, Kane Williamson managed to score 173 runs in just two matches, maintaining an outstanding average of 173, with his highest individual score being 95. Unfortunately, injuries curtailed his participation in a significant portion of the competition.
