CPI(M) Announces First List of Candidates for Telangana Assembly Elections

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), has unveiled its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections. T. Veerabhadram, the state secretary of CPI(M), revealed the names of candidates for 14 constituencies.

Veerabhadram himself is set to contest from Palair, while other candidates include Karam Pullaiah for Bhadrachalam (ST), Pittala Arjun for Aswaraopet (ST), Paladugu Bhaskar for Madhira (SC), Bhukya Veerabhadram for Wyra (ST), Yerra Srikanth for Khammam, and Macharla Bharathi for Sathupalli (SC). Notably, all seven seats are located in undivided Khammam district.

In addition to these, the CPI(M) has fielded candidates for constituencies including Miryalguda, Nakirekal (SC), Bhuvanagiri, Janagam, Ibrahimpatnam, Patancheru, and Musheerabad.

The CPI(M) opted to contest independently after the Congress party did not respond to their request for two seats. The party announced its intention to contest in 24 constituencies and had set a November 2 deadline for the Congress party to agree to their demands for the Wyra and Miryalaguda seats.

Originally, the CPI(M) had sought Bhadrachalam and Palair, but the Congress party nominated candidates for both seats and offered Wyra and Miryalaguda instead. Later, the Congress refused to concede Wyra and proposed an alternative arrangement involving Miryalaguda.

Under the seat-sharing agreement, the Congress had initially agreed to allocate two seats each to the CPI and CPI(M). While the CPI(M)’s list is now public, the CPI is still awaiting the Congress party’s final list. So far, the Congress has declared candidates for 100 of the 119 Assembly seats.

The upcoming Telangana Assembly elections are expected to be closely watched, with various parties announcing their candidates and strategies in the lead-up to the polls.
