New Delhi, November 6: An exclusive CVoter opinion poll conducted for ABP News has projected that the Congress will retain power in the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections.

The Congress had secured a significant victory in the 2018 Assembly elections, ending the BJP’s three consecutive terms in power between 2003 and 2018.

According to the survey, while the BJP has made substantial gains since 2018, it still lags behind the Congress in both vote share and the number of seats.

Chhattisgarh has primarily seen a two-way contest between the BJP and the Congress since its formation in 2000, although other parties, such as the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), have previously held significant sway in the state. However, the current survey indicates that they are projected to play a marginal role in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The CVoter survey suggests that the Congress’s vote share in the state is expected to rise from 43.1% in 2018 to 44.8% in the current elections. The BJP’s vote share is also projected to increase from 33% in 2018 to 42.7% this time. Meanwhile, the vote share of “others” is projected to decrease from 23.9% in 2018 to 12.5% in the current elections.

The slight but significant advantage in vote share is expected to lead the Congress to cross the majority threshold of 45 in the 90-member Assembly.

According to the survey, the Congress is projected to win between 45 and 51 seats in the current elections, down from the 68 seats it won in the 2018 Assembly elections.

The BJP is expected to win between 36 and 42 seats, marking a significant improvement compared to 2018 when it won just 15 seats, but it may still fall short of displacing the Congress.

The “others” are projected to secure between 2 and 5 seats.

During the survey, CVoter team members interviewed 5,782 registered voters, with a margin of error of 3%.
