Hyderabad, December 3: The Communist parties faced a setback in the recent assembly elections, failing to assert their influence despite contesting with alliances. Among the Left parties, only the Communist Party of India (CPI) entered the fray with an alliance, securing a victory in one seat. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM, however, faced disappointment as it failed to open its account in the elections.

CPI made its mark in the elections by forming an alliance with the Congress. CPI State Secretary Koonanneni Sambasivarao emerged victorious, securing 80336 votes and defeating his nearest rival, Jalagam Venkatrao of the All India Forward Bloc, by a significant margin of 26547 votes.

In contrast, CPM contested in 17 seats but failed to secure a win. State Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadra managed to garner only 5308 votes in the election. Other candidates of the party faced similar challenges, with varying vote counts – Julakanti Rangareddy (Miryalaguda) securing 3234 votes, Paladugu Baskar (Madhira) with 6575 votes, Mittapalli Saidu (Kodada) with 1195 votes, Donuri Narsireddy (Munugodu) obtaining 2351 votes, Bukya Veerabhadram (Vira) receiving 4439 votes, Pagadala Yadaya (Ibrahimpatnam) with 3948 votes, and Maddela Dasaratha (Mushirabad) managing only 835 votes. Notably, the None of the Above (Nota) option garnered 1332 votes in Mushirabad.

The results indicate that CPM struggled to showcase its strength in the assembly elections, failing to secure any seats in the process.
