Hyderabad, Light: The Agriculture Department is set to revolutionize crop booking accuracy through a satellite survey, leveraging the latest technology for enhanced precision. A dedicated mobile application, the AEO app, introduces the concept of ‘Ground Truth Point’ (GT Point) for precise crop identification within clusters, with a survey conducted across 318 clusters in 144 mandals during the initial phase.

Traditionally, Agricultural Extension Officers (AEOs) faced challenges in accurately calculating cultivated areas and identifying crops during the crop booking process. To address this, the new approach utilizes a satellite survey to ascertain crop types cultivated within every 300 meters of designated clusters. The AEO app, accessible only when physically in the field, employs geofencing on Google to pinpoint survey numbers and display details within a 300-meter radius.

In the existing system, AEOs could input details without visiting the field, leading to inaccuracies and complications during crop sale transactions. The revamped system aims to eliminate these challenges by ensuring accurate crop registration, promoting transparency, and facilitating seamless data entry for both revenue personnel and farmers.

The pilot project, implemented across 20 districts in the state, focused on groundnut (Pally), chilli, rice, maize, pulses, sorghum, and sesame crops. Following its successful completion, the government plans to extend the satellite survey methodology to cover the entire state in the upcoming crop season. This groundbreaking initiative is poised to enhance the efficiency of crop registration, minimize discrepancies, and usher in a new era of precision agriculture.
