Senior IPS officer Naveen Kumar Bhatt from Telangana was apprehended by the Central Crime Station (CCS) police on Wednesday in connection with a property dispute involving retired IPS officer Bhanwar Lal’s wife.

Bhatt, the Deputy Director of the Telangana State Police Academy, was implicated along with his brother-in-law, Orsu Sambasiva Rao, and Rao’s wife O. Roopa Dimple.

The case, initiated on November 17, includes charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, such as cheating, criminal breach of trust, forgery of valuable security, and using forged documents.

Sambasiva Rao and his wife, arrested on December 22, allegedly unlawfully occupied Lal’s residence in Jubilee Hills beyond the expiration of a five-year rental agreement.

Bhatt, accused number two, was reportedly residing in the house against the terms of the rental agreement, with the complainant asserting that he used fraudulent means to seize the property.

Bhatt’s family countered, labeling the arrest a conspiracy and questioning the fairness of the legal proceedings, claiming a pending civil matter in the High Court for three years.

Bhatt’s son, denouncing the arrest, demanded a CB-CID inquiry, emphasizing concerns about the implications for ordinary citizens in the city.
