Indonesia’s first hydrogen refueling station for hydrogen-fueled vehicles has been established, with plans for its official launch by the end of this month, announced Indonesia’s electricity firm.

Revealed at the country’s annual automotive show in Jakarta on Monday, the breakthrough marks a significant step towards Indonesia’s commitment to advancing renewable energy and fostering a sustainable future vehicle ecosystem, as per Xinhua news agency.

Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of the state-owned electricity company PLN, highlighted the importance of the hydrogen station in Indonesia’s efforts, stating, “Indonesia is ready to become a major player in the ecosystem of hydrogen-fueled vehicles, just like we become one of the pioneers in the establishment of the electric-vehicle ecosystem.”

The station will offer hydrogen-based electric vehicle charging facilities, alongside serving as a Hydrogen Center and Hydrogen Gallery Room, aimed at providing training and education on hydrogen-related technologies in Indonesia.

Prasodjo expressed hope that the promotion of the new station at the automotive event would encourage businesses and communities in the automotive sector to transition towards future vehicles powered by green hydrogen.

Indonesia, the world’s fourth-most populous nation, is actively working towards reducing carbon emissions and aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
