Government of Telangana Introduces “Mahalaxmi” Scheme to Provide Subsidized LPG Cylinders to White Ration Card Holders
“Government of Telangana Releases Guidelines for ‘Mahalaxmi’ Scheme Implementation”
Hyderabad, February 27, 2024
In a move aimed at empowering women and promoting smoke-free cooking environments, the Government of Telangana has announced the launch of the “Mahalaxmi” Scheme. Under this initiative, White Ration Card (Food Security Card) holders in the state will be eligible to purchase LPG domestic cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs. 500 per refill.
The scheme, effective immediately, targets households meeting specific criteria, including active domestic LPG connections in the name of the applicants. Eligible beneficiaries are required to have applied for subsidized cylinders through the Praja Palana application process.
To facilitate the seamless implementation of the scheme, the State Government will transfer the necessary funds to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on a monthly basis. The subsidy amount will then be transferred directly to the beneficiaries via Direct Beneficiary Transfer (DBT).
District Collectors have been tasked with overseeing the awareness and publicity efforts to ensure that eligible households benefit from the Mahalaxmi LPG Scheme. Additionally, they will monitor the supply of LPG refills to eligible beneficiaries and oversee the registration and verification process at designated counters.
The administration of the scheme will be conducted through the Praja Palana portal, with beneficiary-wise release of subsidies being maintained by the Civil Supplies department.
The Commissioner of Civil Supplies, Hyderabad, along with the Chief Rationing Officer and all District Collectors in Telangana, have been directed to take necessary actions for the successful implementation of the scheme.
