Hyderabad, February 28th (PTI): The Intermediate public examinations commenced in Telangana on Wednesday, with nearly 10 lakh students from Class 11 and 12 gearing up to take part in the annual assessments.

Administered by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE), the exams are being conducted at 1,521 centers spread across the state’s 33 districts.

Kicking off the examination schedule, the first-year (Class 11) exams commenced with the second language Paper 1 test, while the second-year exams are scheduled to begin on Thursday.

A total of 9,80,978 students have registered for the exams, with 4,78,718 students sitting for the first-year exams and 5,02,260 for the second-year assessments.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations, prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr.P.C. were enforced around the exam centers, along with the closure of photocopy shops in their vicinity.

Strict punctuality was emphasized, with candidates instructed to report to the exam centers an hour before the scheduled start time. Late arrivals were denied entry, leading to distress for some students who failed to make it on time.

Mobile phones and electronic devices were strictly prohibited within the exam centers by the TSBIE.

To prevent malpractice, the Board deployed 27,900 invigilators and formed 75 flying squads and 200 sitting squads to monitor for any irregularities, building on precautionary measures following past instances of paper leakage.

The Intermediate exams are set to continue until March 19th.
