HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY25
The first plenary of the newly named BRS party will take place in Hyderabad on April 27th, according to recent reports. The President of the BRS party and Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao, plans to invite Chief Ministers and leaders of regional parties opposed to the BJP in order to demonstrate the strength of non-BJP parties against the BJP-led government at the center. This will be the first plenary meeting held after the party changed its name from TRS to BRS.

KCR intends to invite a number of non-BJP national and regional leaders, including M.K. Stalin CM of Tamil Nadu, Hemanth Soren CM of Jharkhand, Nitish Kumar CM of Bihar, and Tejashwi Yadav Dpty CM of Bihar, Mamata Banerjee CM of West Bengal, Pinarayi Vijayan CM of Kerala, and others to attend the party’s plenary and a public meeting with them in Hyderabad.

The TRS party has been holding its annual plenary on April 27th to celebrate the party’s foundation, with the primary goal of achieving independent statehood for Telangana. In October of last year, KCR decided to change the party’s name to BRS to enter national politics and emerge as a rival to the BJP-led NDA at the center in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The TRS state executive approved a unanimous resolution on October 5th, 2022, and requested approval from the EC. On December 8th, 2022, the EC approved the name change, and KCR formally inaugurated the BRS party by flying the party flag on December 9th, 2022.

There was some debate within the party about when to hold the plenary, with some suggesting December 8th or 9th due to the approval of the name change and the formal establishment of the party. However, KCR ultimately decided to hold the plenary on April 27th, the day the party was founded in 2001, arguing that BRS is not a new party but simply a renamed version of TRS.
