New Delhi, March 27: In a strategic move aimed at challenging OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Elon Musk announced on Wednesday that his X platform will soon broaden access to its ‘Grok’ AI chatbot, extending availability to more paying subscribers.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the visionary entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX revealed plans to make Grok accessible to all Premium subscribers, marking a significant expansion in the platform’s AI capabilities.
“Later this week, Grok will be enabled for all premium subscribers (not just premium),” Musk conveyed in his post on X.
This announcement comes on the heels of xAI’s recent decision to release its AI chatbot Grok in open-source mode for developers and researchers. The company shared, “We are releasing the weights and architecture of our 314 billion parameter Mixture-of-Experts model, Grok-1,” making the AI chatbot available on the open-source developer platform Github.
Last year, xAI introduced Grok to India and 46 other countries, including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Singapore. Initially rolled out to Premium subscribers in the US, the Grok AI (beta) has now been slated for broader accessibility.
Despite X’s recent challenges in terms of usage metrics, with a reported decline of 18% in the US year-over-year and 23% since Musk’s acquisition in October 2022, the platform remains committed to enhancing its offerings and expanding its user base.
The move to democratize access to Grok underscores Musk’s vision to democratize AI technology and empower users with advanced conversational capabilities, positioning X as a formidable contender in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.
