NEWDELHI, FEBRUARY26 On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the ongoing liquor scam case in the city. The investigation agency had interrogated Sisodia earlier in the day before announcing his arrest in the evening.
The Delhi government’s new liquor policy, implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has been under scrutiny for alleged irregularities. The Chief Secretary of Delhi had submitted a report stating that the policy was framed with procedural errors, including the violation of rules. The report also suggested that changes were made in the tendering process to benefit certain parties, with the name of Manish Sisodia, who oversees the Abkari department, being mentioned.
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, had recommended the CBI investigate the matter, and the investigation agency has already arrested several people in connection with the case. Sisodia was summoned to attend a hearing on Sunday, and there were speculations that his arrest was imminent, which turned out to be true.
The arrest of a high-ranking government official like Sisodia is a significant development in the case, and it remains to be seen what impact it will have on the ongoing investigation.
