Electricity Disconnection Casts Shadow Over Uppal Stadium Ahead of Cricket Showdown
Hyderabad April 04
In a dramatic turn of events, the Uppal Stadium, set to host the much-anticipated clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, found itself plunged into darkness as electricity authorities severed the power connection. The blackout was a consequence of mounting unpaid bills totaling a staggering Rs. 1.63 crores, accumulating over several months.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association Stadium, the venue for the upcoming cricket extravaganza, had been repeatedly notified about the outstanding dues. Despite the warnings, the management failed to take necessary action, resulting in the drastic measure by the electricity department.

The situation has not only raised eyebrows but also sparked debates over the perceived preferential treatment for elite establishments. Many have criticized the management’s lack of accountability and questioned the disparity in enforcing rules between common citizens and influential entities.
Amidst the chaos, legal interventions added another layer of complexity. The court, responding to the association’s petition, directed them to pay 50% of the outstanding amount immediately, with the remaining to be settled in installments. While the association complied with the court’s interim orders, their plea for waiving the surcharge was met with a stern rebuttal.
The electricity department, citing regulatory obligations, rejected the plea for surcharge waiver, underscoring the importance of adhering to tariff regulations. In a final ultimatum, the department warned of impending disconnection if the outstanding amount, including surcharges, remained unpaid within the stipulated 15-day window.

As the cricketing fraternity braces for the high-stakes encounter, the looming threat of disconnection hovers over the Uppal Stadium, underscoring the urgent need for resolution amid the unfolding saga of unpaid dues and legal battles.
