Smooth Grain Procurement Operations Ensured by Civil Supplies Commissioner DS Chauhan

Hyderabad April 13

In a recent media briefing held in Hyderabad, Civil Supplies Commissioner DS Chauhan assured the public of hassle-free grain procurement operations across the state. With meticulous arrangements in place, Chauhan emphasized the seamless procurement process, highlighting significant achievements and outlining future goals.

Chauhan elaborated on the extensive procurement infrastructure established across the state, revealing that 6919 out of 7149 designated procurement centers have been fully operationalized. These centers serve as vital hubs for the acquisition of paddy, strategically located to facilitate accessibility for farmers across various districts.

Notably, the diligent efforts of the Civil Supplies Department have resulted in the procurement of a substantial 1.87 lakh tonnes of paddy, a testament to the effectiveness of the procurement framework. Furthermore, Chauhan emphasized the swift disbursement of payments to farmers, with an impressive Rs. 400 crores already distributed, underscoring the department’s commitment to ensuring timely compensation for agricultural produce.

A key focus of Chauhan’s address was the department’s unwavering commitment to upholding the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and safeguarding farmers’ interests. He issued a stern warning against any attempts to procure grain below the established MSP, reaffirming the department’s resolve to take strict action against such malpractices. To bolster enforcement efforts, 54 check posts have been strategically positioned across the state, serving as vigilant checkpoints to prevent any deviations from procurement norms and ensure fair dealings.

In addition to addressing operational achievements, Chauhan shed light on the department’s proactive measures to streamline procurement processes and enhance transparency. One such initiative is the implementation of the Iris identification system, aimed at eliminating intermediaries and empowering farmers in the selling process. Through this innovative technology, farmers can directly engage in the procurement process, bypassing traditional channels susceptible to exploitation.

Looking ahead, the Civil Supplies Department has set ambitious targets, aiming to procure 75.40 lakh tonnes of grain during the current season. This objective underscores the department’s commitment to meeting the state’s grain requirements while upholding standards of quality and efficiency.

Despite operational successes, Chauhan acknowledged challenges posed by errant millers and pending funds. He assured swift and decisive action against irregularities, including the utilization of the Revenue Recovery Act to recover dues from delinquent millers. Notably, the department has successfully retrieved Rs. 900 crores worth of pending grain, signaling a resolute stance against non-compliance.

As the procurement season progresses, the Civil Supplies Department remains steadfast in its commitment to facilitating a robust agricultural ecosystem. By ensuring fair and transparent procurement operations, the department seeks to empower farmers, strengthen agricultural livelihoods, and safeguard the interests of all stakeholders involved.
