Title: Greater Hyderabad Sets New Records with Peak Power Demand Exceeding 4000 MW
The demand for electricity in Greater Hyderabad city has reached unprecedented levels, with peak demand surpassing 4000 MW, setting a new milestone. On April 18, 2024, the latest peak demand of 4053 MW was recorded, marking a significant increase compared to previous years.
Last year, the maximum demand of 3756 MW was recorded in May, but this year, the record was broken in April, with a demand of 3832 MW. Over the past three years, there has been a notable increase in demand, ranging from 16 to 20% compared to previous years.
Examining the demand trends from March and April of 2022 to 2024, it is evident that both peak demand and consumption have steadily risen. In March 2024, there was a remarkable 20.04% increase in peak demand compared to the previous year, while consumption rose by 24.52%. Similarly, in April 2024, there was a substantial 16.11% increase in peak demand and a 17.59% increase in consumption compared to the same period in 2022.
Mr. Musharraf Farooqi IAS, Chairman & Managing Director of Telangana Southern Power distribution Company, attributed the record-high demand to the government’s commitment to providing uninterrupted power supply to all sectors. He commended the tireless efforts of power officials in promptly addressing supply issues and ensuring continuous availability of electricity to consumers.
Despite the surge in power consumption and demands, uninterrupted supply will continue, thanks to efficient maintenance work completed earlier in the year and the dedicated efforts of the management and staff to resolve supply issues promptly.
