Government Incentivizes Small varieties Paddy Cultivation with Rs. 500 Bonus

Hyderabad, May 21 – The state government has announced a significant boost for small varieties paddy cultivation by providing an incentive of Rs. 500 per quintal as a bonus. This move aims to increase the production of fine rice varieties, which have not kept up with demand over the years.

To further support this initiative, the government plans to supply fine rice in ration shops. The agriculture department anticipates that this incentive could lead to a 50% increase in the cultivation of small paddy during the monsoon season.

In recent years, the cultivation of fine paddy has declined, allowing traders to capitalize on the demand by raising prices. To address this issue, the government’s new measures are expected to reduce rice prices by boosting supply. Farmers cultivating small paddy will benefit from the additional bonus, alongside the standard support price, providing them with a more profitable venture.

Previously, the cultivation of small varieties paddy was hindered by the absence of incentives and support, leading to farmers abandoning it due to higher costs and lower yields compared to other paddy varieties. Past government policies did not deliver on promised bonuses, causing farmers to sell their produce at lower prices to private traders and millers.

The current administration is confident that its new measures will reverse this trend. By purchasing fine paddy with a bonus and distributing it through ration shops, the government aims to support both farmers and the poor. The decision is expected to increase fine paddy cultivation by 50% in the monsoon season and 25% in the Rabi season.
