New Delhi, June 20: The NEET-UG paper leak case has escalated into a significant controversy, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticizing the BJP-led Central government on Thursday. He announced that the Opposition would bring this issue to the forefront in the upcoming session of Parliament.

Speaking at a press conference, the Congress MP recounted that during his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ from Manipur to Maharashtra, numerous young people raised concerns about paper leaks.

Rahul Gandhi also took a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remarking that while the PM was purportedly able to stop the Russia-Ukraine war, he seems unable or unwilling to prevent paper leaks within India.

“The reason for these paper leaks is that the BJP’s parent organization has taken control of the education system. Until this is reversed, paper leaks will continue,” Gandhi stated, attributing this “capture of the education system” to Prime Minister Modi. He further labeled this situation as an “anti-national activity.”

Gandhi criticized the impartiality of the country’s institutions, accusing them of being aligned with a single ideology. He condemned the Centre for exonerating the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is responsible for conducting NEET-UG.

Addressing the cancellation of the UGC NET on Wednesday, a day after it was held, Rahul Gandhi called for a thorough reassessment and redesign of the current system. He advocated for a comprehensive investigation into the NEET-UG paper leak and demanded accountability for those responsible.

Approximately 24 lakh aspirants appeared for NEET on May 5, aiming for admission to medical colleges. The results, announced early on June 5, were overshadowed by allegations of a paper leak and the awarding of grace marks to over 1,500 candidates.
