Khalid Shari, once known as the world’s heaviest man, has undergone a stunning transformation, shedding an astonishing 547 kg to reach a healthy weight of 63 kg. Shari, who weighed 610 kg in 2013, was effectively confined to his bed due to his extreme obesity.
Humanitarian Intervention
The dramatic change in Shari’s life came with the intervention of former Saudi King Abdullah. Concerned by Shari’s condition, King Abdullah ordered a comprehensive medical plan to address his severe weight issues. This humanitarian effort included assembling a team of 30 doctors to oversee Shari’s treatment.
Medical and Surgical Efforts
Shari was transported from his home in Jazan to King Fad Medical City Hospital in Riyadh in a specialized vehicle designed for freight. His weight loss journey began with gastric bypass surgery and a carefully monitored diet. He also underwent intense physical therapy and multiple surgeries to remove excess skin and further support his weight loss.
Ongoing Progress
By 2023, Shari’s weight had decreased to 63.5 kg. His remarkable progress has earned him the nickname “The Smiling Man” from his doctors, reflecting his newfound health and positivity.
Shari’s transformation highlights the profound impact of dedicated medical care and humanitarian intervention, showcasing the miracles that can happen with the right support.
