Parvathaneni Harish, a distinguished Telugu diplomat, has been appointed as India’s next Permanent Representative to the United Nations. The Ministry of External Affairs announced his appointment on Wednesday, following the retirement of Ruchira Kamboj, who served in the role for nearly four decades.
Background and Achievements
Harish, currently serving as the Indian Ambassador to Germany since November 6, 2021, will succeed Kamboj in his new role. He has a distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service, having joined in 1990. Harish holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University College, Hyderabad, where he earned a gold medal. He furthered his education at the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.

Throughout his career, Harish has held several key positions, including Additional Secretary for Economic Relations at the Ministry of External Affairs. He is known for his expertise in bilateral economic relations and has served as Ambassador to various countries in East Asia. Notable roles include Consul General of India in Houston (2012-2016) and Indian Ambassador to Vietnam (2016-2019). He has also worked as a Joint Secretary to the Vice President of India.
Harish’s appointment reflects his extensive experience and contributions to Indian diplomacy, and he will assume his new duties at the United Nations shortly.
