Foxconn Chairman Plans Visit to Hyderabad, Envisions City’s Expansion in Industry and Services

New Delhi, August 16: Yang Liu, Chairman of Foxconn, an international industrial giant, highlighted the immense potential of Hyderabad for expansion across multiple sectors, including industry and services. In a meeting with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his official residence in Delhi on Friday morning, Liu announced his plans to visit Hyderabad with his team soon to explore potential investments and collaborations.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy provided an in-depth overview of Hyderabad’s rich history, emphasizing its strategic importance for industrial expansion and its favorable climatic conditions. He elaborated on the city’s phased development over 430 years and its evolution into a major industrial hub. Reddy introduced the concept of the “Fourth City,” a new urban area planned to focus on key sectors such as education, healthcare, sports, electronics, electrical, and skill development. He emphasized that the new city would be designed to meet the demands of the modern industrial landscape.

The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of the Young India Skill Development University, which aims to equip the youth with skills that are aligned with the needs of contemporary industries. The university’s curriculum is being designed by eminent industrialists, including Anand Mahindra, who has been appointed as the chairman, and Srinivasa Raju, who will serve as the vice-chairman. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and growth in various sectors.

Foxconn Chairman Yang Liu expressed his admiration for Chief Minister Reddy’s forward-thinking vision and pro-industrial policies. He was particularly impressed by the plans for the Fourth City and the government’s efforts to create a favorable business environment. Liu conveyed Foxconn’s keen interest in investing in the new city and contributing to its development. He stated that a team led by Chief Campus Operations Officer Kathy Yang and India representative V. Lee would visit Hyderabad ahead of his own trip to initiate discussions and assess potential opportunities.

State IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu also briefed Liu on the state government’s initiatives under Chief Minister Reddy’s leadership. He highlighted the various incentives offered to investors and the recent agreements made during the government’s visits to the United States and South Korea. These efforts underscore the government’s proactive approach to attracting foreign investment and fostering international partnerships.

The meeting was attended by several key officials, including State Government Special Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Special Secretary Dr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Chief Minister’s Special Secretary Shi Ajith Reddy, and Foxconn representatives such as President of SBG Bob Chen, CBG GM J.H. Wu, and CSBG Deputy GM Hsu Shou-kuo. The discussions focused on identifying areas of mutual interest and exploring avenues for collaboration between Foxconn and the state government.

Foxconn’s potential investment in Hyderabad’s Fourth City aligns with the state government’s vision of transforming the city into a global hub for industry and innovation. With its robust infrastructure, strategic location, and supportive policies, Hyderabad is well-positioned to attract significant investments and drive economic growth in the coming years.
