Hyderabad September 17

On the occasion of People’s Governance Day, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy delivered a powerful speech, emphasizing the historical significance of September 17, 1948, when Telangana broke free from slavery. Speaking on Hyderabad soil, he highlighted that Telangana’s foundation is built on sacrifice, with Doddi Komuraiah being a symbol of such sacrifices during the region’s armed struggle.

The Chief Minister paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the fight for freedom and declared September 17 as one of the most significant days in Telangana’s history. He acknowledged the ongoing debate about how to define this day, with some referring to it as “Merger Day” and others as “Emancipation Day.” However, he committed to officially celebrating it as “People’s Governance Day” once the people’s government came to power, ensuring that the sacrifices of Telangana’s martyrs are honored appropriately.

CM Reddy further emphasized the unity of Telangana’s diverse cultures, races, and religions, symbolized by the clenched fist—a representation of strength and solidarity. He criticized attempts to create division over September 17, urging that the day serves as an inspiration to break free from oppression, past and present.

Reflecting on his promise to the people upon assuming the role of PCC president, Reddy reiterated his commitment to freeing Telangana from dictatorial rule. He recalled the “Dalit-Tribal Self-Esteem Dandora” initiative, which he launched on September 17, 2021, to fight for the dignity and rights of marginalized communities. He drew parallels between past struggles and the current need for economic, cultural, and environmental revival in Telangana, criticizing the last decade of governance for corruption and exploitation.

He then outlined a series of initiatives aimed at reviving Telangana’s rich cultural heritage, starting with the declaration of “Jaya Jayahe Telangana Janani Jayaketanam” as the official state song. He also announced plans to rename Telangana state abbreviation from TS to TG, symbolizing the aspirations of the people. Additionally, a Telangana Mother idol is being installed at the state Secretariat, and the unveiling will be celebrated with grandeur on December 9.

On the economic front, Reddy stressed the urgent need to revive Telangana’s shattered economy, which has been burdened with ₹7 lakh crores of debt. The government has already begun implementing the six guarantees promised to the people and is working on debt restructuring to stabilize the situation. His efforts to reclaim Telangana’s rightful share of central funds were also highlighted, as he emphasized the importance of visiting Delhi to secure these resources.

Further, the Chief Minister discussed the government’s two-pronged approach to youth development, focusing on eradicating the state’s drug problem while promoting sports. The establishment of Young India Skill University and Young India Sports University are key milestones in this strategy, which aim to provide employment and job security for Telangana’s youth.

Environmental revival was also a focal point of the speech, with CM Reddy announcing the formation of “HYDRA,” an initiative aimed at preserving Hyderabad’s natural environment, which has been degraded over the past decade. He expressed his determination to restore the city’s reputation as the “Lake City” and to prevent further environmental disasters.

The Chief Minister outlined the government’s commitment to public welfare, pointing to several achievements within six months of taking office. These include waiving off loans for farmers, providing free bus travel for girls, increasing the Arogyasree scheme coverage to ₹10 lakhs, and implementing the Grihajyoti scheme for free electricity. Additionally, he announced plans to build 4,50,000 houses under the Indiramma scheme and provide financial assistance of ₹5 lakh per house.

Reddy also emphasized the need to support Gulf workers and their families, announcing the creation of a Pravasi Prajavani Kendra to address their issues and provide free education to their children in government gurukuls. A committee has also been formed to study the problems of Gulf workers and propose solutions.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transparency, responsibility, and the aspirations of Telangana’s people. Through a cultural, economic, and environmental renaissance, he aims to rebuild Telangana and ensure a prosperous future for all.
