ISRO to Launch PROBA-3 Mission Satellites from Sriharikota Tomorrow
Sriharikota, December 03,2024: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for the launch of the PSLV-C59/PROBA-3 mission satellites, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, at 4:06 p.m. The lift-off will take place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
The mission will see the trusted Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C59 carrying a payload of satellites weighing approximately 550 kilograms. These satellites will be deployed into a highly elliptical orbit, marking yet another significant milestone in India’s space exploration journey.
The highlight of the mission is the PROBA-3 project, an advanced “In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) mission” developed by the European Space Agency (ESA). The PROBA-3 mission is focused on testing innovative satellite technologies, including precise formation flying and high-accuracy control systems, which will be critical for future space missions.
The twin-satellite configuration of PROBA-3 includes the Coronagraph Satellite and the Occulter Satellite, which will demonstrate the capability to create an artificial eclipse in space. This will enable the study of the Sun’s corona with unprecedented clarity, a crucial step in understanding solar activity and its impact on Earth.
ISRO’s PSLV-C59 launch vehicle has been chosen for its proven reliability and adaptability in deploying satellites into complex orbits. The mission underscores the growing collaboration between ISRO and international space agencies, showcasing India’s capabilities as a global space exploration partner.
The upcoming launch will be keenly watched by space enthusiasts, scientists, and policymakers, as it represents a blend of cutting-edge technology, international cooperation, and ISRO’s commitment to advancing space science.
