Sachin Tendulkar Awarded Honorary Cricket Membership by Melbourne Cricket Club
Melbourne: The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), one of the oldest sports clubs in Australia, has conferred its prestigious Honorary Cricket Membership upon Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. The announcement was made on Friday via the MCC’s official X account, during the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
“An icon honoured. The MCC is pleased to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the game,” the MCC stated.
Tendulkar, hailed as one of the greatest batters in cricket history, represented India from 1989 to 2013. His illustrious career includes 100 international centuries and a staggering 34,357 runs in 664 matches. He was also part of India’s victorious 2011 ODI World Cup squad.
At the MCG, Tendulkar left a lasting mark, playing five Tests and seven ODIs, amassing 449 and 190 runs respectively. His Test record at the ground features a century and three fifties, making him India’s leading run-scorer at the venue.
This recognition adds to Tendulkar’s long list of international honors. In 2012, he became the first non-Australian cricketer to receive the Order of Australia (OAM). He also holds honorary memberships with the Sydney Cricket Club (SCC) and Yorkshire County Cricket Club, as well as life membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), custodians of Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
Tendulkar’s contribution to cricket continues to inspire generations, and this honorary membership from MCC further cements his legacy as a global ambassador of the sport.
