Eli Lilly to Establish Second Indian GCC in Hyderabad, Creating 1,000-1,500 Jobs
Hyderabad, January 10, 2025: US-based pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company has announced plans to establish its second Global Capability Center (GCC) in India. The new facility, to be located in Hyderabad, will focus on leveraging advanced technologies like automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the company’s digital strategy and global service delivery.
This new GCC, named the Lilly Capability Center India (LCCI), is expected to become operational by mid-2025. Recruitment for the center is already underway, with the company planning to hire between 1,000 and 1,500 highly-skilled professionals. The workforce will include technology engineers, data scientists, and other specialists in digital and automation technologies.
Expansion Reflects Growth Strategy
Eli Lilly’s decision to set up a second GCC in India reflects the growing importance of the country as a hub for global innovation and technological excellence. The company launched its first GCC in Bengaluru in 2016, which currently employs over 3,000 people and has become a critical part of the company’s global operations. The Hyderabad GCC is expected to complement the Bengaluru center, allowing Eli Lilly to scale its capabilities further.
“India has proven to be an exceptional location for our digital and technological operations. The establishment of a second GCC in Hyderabad is a natural next step as we continue to strengthen our global footprint,” said a company spokesperson.

Investment and Economic Impact
While the company has not disclosed the exact investment in the Hyderabad GCC, the spokesperson described it as “significant.” The move underscores Eli Lilly’s confidence in India’s talent pool and the supportive ecosystem provided by Hyderabad for global businesses.
The Hyderabad GCC will not only create employment opportunities but also drive innovation in areas such as clinical data analytics, regulatory compliance, and supply chain optimization. It will also play a key role in developing and deploying automation solutions that enhance the efficiency of Eli Lilly’s global operations.
Hyderabad: A Growing Tech and Life Sciences Hub

Hyderabad has emerged as a preferred destination for multinational corporations, especially in the technology and life sciences sectors. The city’s robust infrastructure, availability of skilled professionals, and proactive government policies have attracted global leaders such as Microsoft, Google, Novartis, and now Eli Lilly.
“The decision to establish this center in Hyderabad reinforces the city’s reputation as a global hub for technology and life sciences. We look forward to contributing to the vibrant ecosystem here,” the company stated.
Looking Ahead
The Hyderabad GCC is part of Eli Lilly’s broader strategy to harness digital transformation and innovation to meet the evolving needs of patients worldwide. By focusing on advanced technologies, the company aims to enhance its ability to develop life-saving medicines and improve healthcare delivery.
Eli Lilly’s expansion in India is expected to further strengthen the country’s position as a key player in the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.
